Pre-Nursery: How are we?

The 1st quarter is almost over! Quick update!

All 14 kids in Pre-Nursery are finally settling in and getting used to being in school and doing classroom routine. 12 of them are staying in school until 2:45 everyday, 1 stays for nap time thrice a week and 1 stays until lunch time. 6 of them are toilet trained and proud of it!

Parents must be wondering what the kids are up to in the classroom. The following activities are what we do in the classroom to help develop the kids’ fine and gross motor skills and independence. These activities can also be done at home for follow up:

  1. Picking up trash and throwing it into the trash bin.
  2. Pushing the chairs in.
  3. Packing up toys after playing.
  4. Going up and down the stairs.
  5. Wearing and taking off their own shoes.
  6. Carrying their own bags.
  7. Eating on their own.
  8. Washing their hands.

So far, we have covered 4 letters in the alphabet! Letters Aa, Mm, Pp and Tt. Almost all of us know and remember the 3 primary colors. We count endlessly when we are doing things. We do a lot of dancing and singing and just getting our bodies coordinated.

The 1st quarter has been a great period of adjustment for all of us. We are all excited to be back for more adventurous learning!

Pre-Nursery Class at the TAS Moon Festival

The American School celebrates Moon Festival!

Of course, the youngest Mustangs in school joined in all the fun.

The Pre-Nursery class was surprisingly well-behaved as they watched the older kids in class perform. Some of them even joined in by dancing!

Don’t we all look good in our ao dais?

The Dragon Dance was definitely a new experience to most of us. Being so close to the performers in costume surely surprised and even scared us at first.

Enjoying the Dragon Dance!

TAS Moon Festival Celebration

Dear Parents,

We are preparing for an exciting and eventful Moon Festival.  This year, each student will create a unique lantern in their art class using recycled materials.  We ask that the students bring used (and cleaned) items such as plastic water bottles, toilet paper rolls, newspapers, chopsticks, and more.  Please bring the materials to school between September 18-22. Each class will be awarded based on their creative designs at the assembly.

In addition, we are very happy to invite you to this year’s TAS Moon Festival Celebration on Tuesday, October 3rd, at 8:15 AM in the TAS MSHS Auditorium.

Our students have been working hard on their performance for the Moon Festival Celebration and we are sure that you will enjoy them!

We ask that for this celebration, students wear a traditional tunic (áo dài) to school.

We are excited to have you come and support all of the students’ hard work! It is our pleasure to welcome family participation at our Moon Festival Celebration.

Best regards,

Garth O’Donnell

Ms. Ann’s Welcome Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to The American School’s Pre-Nursery class! I am so glad to have your precious little ones this year. I am Ann Capitulo or Ms. Ann from the Philippines. This is my 11th year teaching preschool and my second school year teaching the youngest members of the TAS family.

I am thrilled to have your child in my class to discover, explore, learn and play with. We will have tons of activities that will help your child develop physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Teaching your child is a tremendous responsibility and I will do my best to ensure that each student has a safe and motivating learning experience this school year.

You are your child’s first guardian. Please prepare him/her every day to be in the best frame of mind by making sure a full night’s rest and a healthy breakfast is provided.

Your child should be in school at 8:00AM sharp and should be picked up at 2:45PM. Let’s help your child settle in by coming on time.

Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

My email is: ann.capitulo@tas.edu.vn

For the first couple of weeks at school we will be working on establishing class and school rules and routines. The medium of instruction in the classroom is English. The teaching assistants are here to help translate for the kids to have a better understanding of classroom activities, lessons and routines.

Please send your child to school wearing proper uniform and comfortable footwear. We will also be having a 90-minute nap time each day. The school will provide a sleeping mat, but we ask that you send your child to school with a labelled pillow, blanket and any other napping material they may need.

We are always moving around and getting messy and sweaty indoors and outdoors, so please make sure that your child always have the following in their bags. Please label their personal belongings too.

What to bring to school:

  1. Complete set of clothes (shirt or dress, shorts or pants, underwear)
  2. Diaper (for those who are not potty-trained yet or those who needs one during nap time)
  3. Towel
  4. Wet wipes
  5. Swim wear on Fridays

Let’s work together to make this school year a memorable and enriching experience for your child.

Ms. Ann (Pre-Nursery)
