L.A. –  The Grade 3’s are practicing building their stamina by reading silently for 30 minutes everyday. The students are also focusing on their books and practicing the lessons they are learning in Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop. Students have also been working in their grammar books and have spelling assignments each night for homework. On Friday’s we have our spelling test.

Students created their own word search with their spelling lists and gave it to a friend to try and solve.

Math –Students have almost completed unit 4 and will have their test next week. They learned about multiplication and division.

Science – Students have almost completed Chapter 4- Classifying Living Things and completed their test. They began learning about the Water Cycle.

Social Studies – Students completed chapter 5 – What Makes Our Community Diverse? – Students then chose a country to research and made a poster including the Food, Language, Holidays and Traditions of that country.

We also started our Fitness Bursts every Friday. We want students to get bursts of physical activity throughout the day to encourage healthy lifestyles and to wake up their brains!

Every day students are moving, getting the blood flowing and allowing us to move our bodies and improve our memory!

Lesson Overview (Week of September 26th – 30th)

TAS had their 2nd monthly assembly on Friday. We celebrated Reading Month and Student of the Month (Integrity). There were awards for Top Reader in every class (Tony from 3A won), bookmark design contest and classes that met their goal and beyond with reading minutes won a pizza and movie! Grade 3A and 5A surpassed their goals and won the pizza and movie! Congratulations!

From our class, Jerry won the student of the month award for her hard work and honesty. Way to go Jerry!

This week, students completed their Reading Interactive Notebook and started writing and practicing the messages in Reading Workshop. They are still continuing to work on their Writing Interactive Notebook.

Reading Workshop lessons involve listening to reading and talking about reading.

Math –Students have almost completed unit 2 and will have their test next week. They learned the partial sums method, the trade first method and the count up method to solve addition and subtraction questions

Science – Students have almost completed Chapter 4- Classifying living things. Students made a poster about classifying two animals into groups (same and different)

Social Studies – Students completed chapter 3 – What is the Geography of our Community. Students learned about different communities in the USA and what their natural resources, climate and physical features are. Next week, we will move on to Chapter 5 – What Makes our Community Diverse?

Math –Students started Unit 2 – Adding and subtracting whole numbers and began comparison Number Stories and learning the Partial Sums Method.

Science – Students began chapter 4 – Classifying living things.

Social Studies – Students completed Chapter 1 and are now working in Chapter 2 and 3 – Where in the world is your community? And What is the geography of our community?

Social Studies – Students started chapter 1 in Social Studies. The focus was learning what and where the 4 hemispheres, the equator, the prime meridian, the oceans and continents are. Next week, they’ll be locating countries.

Social Studies – Students are focused on Character Education lessons. September’s character trait is Integrity. We will also begin with Chapter 1 in Social Studies books on Monday

Math –Students are working on the first unit of Everyday Mathematics. We’re focusing more on counting money and calculating change.

Students also played a place value math game this week.

Science – Students are learning the school’s ESLRs and making posters on what the ESLR means to them.

Social Studies – Students are focused on Character Education lessons. This month the focus is on Optimism and next month is Integrity.

Friday June 3rd was graduation day! Kindergarten and Grade 5’s graduated today and the elementary school attend the fantastic performances and graduation.

L.A. –  The Grade 3’s are practicing building their stamina by reading silently for 35 minutes everyday. The students are also focusing on their books and practicing the lessons they are learning in Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop.

This week, students are continuing to learn about Fantasy Genre.

Students completed their Fantasy stories and read them to each other, helped each other edit them and write their stories in good.

The grade 3’s have also been given a review booklet on reading comprehension which they have the week to complete it.

Math –Students had their End of the Year Assessment test which took them 2 days to complete. We also reviewed them and are now completing the review section in the math journals.

Science – Students completed the unit on Force and Motion and had an open book test.

Social Studies – Students are focused on Character Education lessons. This unit will help boost the students self-confidence which is the character of the month.

L.A. –  The Grade 3’s are practicing building their stamina by reading silently for 35 minutes everyday. The students are also focusing on their books and practicing the lessons they are learning in Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop.

This week, students are continuing to learn about Fantasy Genre.

Students have finished brainstorming and writing their beginning paragraph of their stories. They had to use a bold beginning and then read to another student and edit it. Next week, we will work on the middle and ending of their fantasy story.

Math –Students had their unit 10 math test on Friday. Next week, it will be review from the year before the year end assessment.

Science – Students started a new unit. Force and Motion. We are reviewing the chapter together along with watching science videos on this topic.

Social Studies – Students are focused on Character Education lessons. This unit will help boost the students self-confidence which is the character of the month.

L.A. –  The Grade 3’s are practicing building their stamina by reading silently for 35 minutes everyday. The students are also focusing on their books and practicing the lessons they are learning in Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop.

This week, students are continuing to learn about Fantasy Genre. Now, they are brainstorming ideas to write their first fantasy story.

Math –Students are reviewing different units of measurement and also reviewing mean, median and mode plus review from the beginning of the year in order to prepare for the end of the year assessment

Science – Students learned about about Earth’s landforms. We finished the chapter and had a test. Next week will be a review of what was learned from the beginning of the year.

Social Studies – Students are focused on Character Education lessons. THis unit will help boost the students self-confidence which is the character of the month.

Welcome Back!

Before the break, we had a Student of the Month awards. Adrian and Anh from grade 3 won the awards for demonstrating compassion.

This week, students started learning about Fantasy Genre. first, we identified character traits and how do we form an opinion about that character.

Working together to find character feelings and students had to identify the settings of the story and decide if it is realistic or fantasy.

Math –Students completed Unit 9 and had a review and a test. We are now moving onto Unit 10 – Measurement.

Science – Students are learning about Earth’s landforms. The class has been studying about volcanoes and watched an episode of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

We also had Earth Day! Students worked on a paper that told different ways to help the Earth. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Social Studies – Students are reviewing chapter 3 about natural resources, climate and physical features in a certain place. They are now working on making a travel brochure for aliens to come to a certain planet and explaining the planets features!
