Lesson Overview (Week of September 26th – 30th)

TAS had their 2nd monthly assembly on Friday. We celebrated Reading Month and Student of the Month (Integrity). There were awards for Top Reader in every class (Tony from 3A won), bookmark design contest and classes that met their goal and beyond with reading minutes won a pizza and movie! Grade 3A and 5A surpassed their goals and won the pizza and movie! Congratulations!

From our class, Jerry won the student of the month award for her hard work and honesty. Way to go Jerry!

L.A. –  The Grade 3’s are practicing building their stamina by reading silently for 30 minutes everyday. The students are also focusing on their books and practicing the lessons they are learning in Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop.

This week, students completed their Reading Interactive Notebook and started writing and practicing the messages in Reading Workshop. They are still continuing to work on their Writing Interactive Notebook.

Reading Workshop lessons involve listening to reading and talking about reading.

Students have also been working in their grammar books and have spelling assignments each night for homework. On Friday’s we have our spelling test.

Math –Students have almost completed unit 2 and will have their test next week. They learned the partial sums method, the trade first method and the count up method to solve addition and subtraction questions

Science – Students have almost completed Chapter 4- Classifying living things. Students made a poster about classifying two animals into groups (same and different)

Social Studies – Students completed chapter 3 – What is the Geography of our Community. Students learned about different communities in the USA and what their natural resources, climate and physical features are. Next week, we will move on to Chapter 5 – What Makes our Community Diverse?

We also started our Fitness Bursts every Friday. We want students to get bursts of physical activity throughout the day to encourage healthy lifestyles and to wake up their brains!

Every day students are moving, getting the blood flowing and allowing us to move our bodies and improve our memory!
