Week 5

This week we are learning more about the elements of timbre, meter, and rhythm. Students in all grades are using mallet percussion bells to practice keeping a steady beat, playing ostinatos using quarter notes, eighth notes and half notes, and playing simple song accompaniment. 3rd through 5th grade are practicing 16th note rhythms through clapping, counting, stomping and snapping their fingers. 1st and 2nd grade are using bells to keep a steady beat and learning to count in triple and duple meter. Students in 2nd through 5th grade are also exploring basic melodic improvisation on five note scales and 3rd through 5th grade are continuing to learn standard notation and note subdivision.

I am a new music teacher at TAS. This is my first year teaching music and I am very excited about it. I graduated from CSU Northridge in L.A. with a degree in music education and worked as a computer tech teacher for one year after graduating in the U.S. I recently received a tefl certificate and have wanted to teach abroad for some time. I am passionate about music, the arts in general and learning. I love making a difference through education and having fun. I am enjoying getting to know our students at TAS, we are getting off to a wonderful start this year.
