This week we are learning more about the elements of timbre, meter, and rhythm. Students in all grades are using mallet percussion bells to practice keeping a steady beat, playing ostinatos using quarter notes, eighth notes and half notes, and playing simple song accompaniment. 3rd through 5th grade are practicing 16th note rhythms through clapping, counting, stomping and snapping their fingers. 1st and 2nd grade are using bells to keep a steady beat and learning to count in triple and duple meter. Students in 2nd through 5th grade are also exploring basic melodic improvisation on five note scales and 3rd through 5th grade are continuing to learn standard notation and note subdivision.
