Components of Body Movement Unit: Locomotor & Non-Locomotor, Space Awareness and Movement Patterns

August23

Week 1 – 2 : Grade 1 to Grade 5 students started their Physical Education Class with the Components of Body Movement Unit. It is believed that learning the basic fundamental movement like walking, running, skipping, galloping, hopping, leaping, sliding and jumping are building blocks, necessary for more complex physical activities. Playing sports, exercising and dancing all require a command of simple fundamental body movement. Treasure Hunting, DVD Game, Locomotor and Non-locomotor combination are activities for this unit.

Week 3 – 4: Spatial Awareness and Vocabulary Cues. Spatial awareness is the ability of a child to understand where they are in relation to objects or where objects or structures are in relation to each other. It also refers to understanding how an object changes in relation to them when they move. As a result, a child will increase a sense of balance, flexibility and whole body strength.
