WEEK: 35 DATE: May, 28 2017

First/Second Grade: Flying Things

This week we will be casting our gaze towards the sky.  Students will be making a mixed media painting of their favorite flying thing (i.e. bird, plane, or U.F.O.!).

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Clay Dessert

Students will be making dessert with clay this week.  We will be looking at our favorite deserts/sweet dishes and making a clay replica.

Fifth Grade: Sunflowers

As the end of the year approaches we will be doing a variety of different exercises.  This week we will be looking at sunflowers and the works of Van Gogh.  Students will see a demonstration of observation drawing and how to create a cartoon beneath the painted layers.

WEEK: 33 DATE: May, 14 2017

First/Second Grade:  Curious Cat

We will be turning our attention to the world of felines this week.  Students will be drawing, coloring, and cutting out their own cat!

Third/Fourth Grade:  Making Money

Students will be designing their own money this week.  We will be looking at different currencies around the world. Students will choose a person, country, and amount they want to put on their money.

Fifth Grade:   Shading Exercises

We will be learning about shadows and light.  Students will be drawing various shapes and then adding shadows using a light source.

 

 

WEEK: 32 DATE: May, 7 2017

First/Second Grade:  Lotus Pastel Drawings

We will be turning our attention to the natural beauty of Vietnam by making Lotus flowers with pastels. Students will learn about the long artistic history of the flower and different methods to draw various lotus.

 

Third/Fourth Grade:  Positive/Negative Drawing

This week we will be looking at the outline of different figures and exploring new concepts.  Students will learn about symmetrical and asymmetrical objects.  We will be making a drawing with both positive and negative spaces.  Students will be creating a design that can be easily divided into 2 parts.  With half a sheet of black paper, students will be cutting out a negative image that will be flipped over and pasted on the opposite side, thus creating a positive/negative image.

WEEK: 31 DATE: May, 2 2017

First/Second Grade:  Shoe Drawings

We will be looking at our shoes this week.  Students will be working on their observation skills by drawing their shoes.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Bamboo Brush Paintings

We will be turning our attention to the natural world around is here in Vietnam.  We will be looking at the ancient art of bamboo brush painting.  We will be practicing various techniques and hopefully make a few master pieces of our own! J
