WEEK: 20 DATE: January 25, 2016

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Pastel Lanterns

This week we will be making lanterns using pastels. Students will learn about the significance of the lantern in the long Vietnamese tradition of the Lunar New Year.

 

First/Second Grade: Chinese Calligraphy

We will be making some lanterns using Chinese calligraphy.   Students will choose their character’s meaning and will practice using brushes.   After practicing they will use their skills in creating a lantern with their character.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Dragon

To ring in the new year, we will make a dragon. Students will have a walk-through on how to create a dragon. They will then make their own.

Fifth Grade: Dragon

To ring in the new year, we will make a dragon. Students will have a walk-through on how to create a dragon. They will then make their own.

WEEK: 19 DATE: January 18, 2016

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Branches with Flowers

Chúc mừng năm mới! Happy New Year, well almost! These next couple of weeks leading up to Tet, we will be exploring the iconography of the New Year.

 

First/Second Grade: Fireworks

In getting ready for Tet, we will be making some thematically based projects.   Students will be making a picture using pastels and their own version of fireworks and the downtown skyline of Saigon.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Year of the Monkey 2016

We will be exploring the Chinese Astrological calendar with making a monkey. Students will design and cut out their monkey from red paper. They will glue them on a white background.

Fifth Grade: Year of the Monkey

We will be exploring the Chinese Astrological calendar with making a monkey. Students will design and cut out their monkey from red paper. They will glue them on a white background.

WEEK: 18 DATE: January 10, 2016

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Monkey Drawing

Happy New year! We will be ringing in the new year with a drawing of the official Animal of 2016- the Monkey. We will be working on our shapes to make a Monkey head, after which the students will color with crayons.

First/Second Grade: Vacation Drawing

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a nice break. We will be reflecting upon our time apart and what our take-away has been from the experience. Students will be asked about any stories of what they did and where they went. They will then make a drawing to illustrate the most important part of their break.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Year of the Monkey cut-out drawing

In keeping with the New Year tradition, we will be looking at Chinese Astrology. This is the Year of the Monkey and we will be making traditional cut-out monkey drawings. Students will see a variety of different monkeys and then create their rough draft. Upon approval, the students will make their final monkey cut-out.

Fifth Grade: Year of the Monkey cut-out drawing
