Halloween Pumpkins

WEEK: 10 DATE: October 25, 2015

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Toilet Paper Owl

This week we will be making an owl using a toilet paper roll. Students will practice their shapes while making the pattern of the owl face.

 

First/Second Grade: Pumpkin Mosaic Carving

This week students will be making a pumpkin using the mosaic technique of gluing different pieces of scrap paper. Students will draw out their pumpkin first and then add the pieces until they fill up the paper.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Build A Monster

We will be finishing out the Halloween season with a clay assignment. Students will design their own monsters. They will first sketch out their ideas and then commit them to clay.

DATE: October 18, 2015

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Jack-o-Lantern Cut-Outs Happy Halloween! We are getting into the spirit this year with a drawing and cutting exercise. Students will be introduced to pumpkins and their history.

First/Second Grade: Night-time Ghost Are you ready to be scared? We will be using our imaginations to create a night-time scene using pastels. Students will see some of the history of Halloween and the iconography of this favorite holiday.

Third/Fourth Grade: Silhouette Sunset Haunted House We will be learning about cross-fading colours using acrylic paint and the thinning agent known as h20. Students will also learn about layering and making a preliminary sketch before they execute their final design. This allows the child to think through their decisions carefully. Students will also see a demo on how to fade between colours in creating the sunset to night effect. During the next session, they will draw their next layer and paint over it with black-creating the silhouette effect.

WEEK: 9 DATE: October 4, 2015

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Blown Tree Paintings

We will be looking at recurring natural paintings such as branches, roots, and veins. Students will be creating their pictures using straws and blowing their branches and roots for their trees.

 

First/Second Grade: Watercolour Resist Painting

Students will be working on a watercolour resist painting. We will be making leaves using oil pastels and adding a background using watercolour.

Third/Fourth Grade: Pen and Ink Leaf Drawings

We will be exploring the world of pen and ink drawings using Chinese ink and dead pens. Students will be encouraged to use their imagination and making interesting patterns in the different sections of the leaves.

Fifth Grade:
