WEEK: 8 DATE: September 27, 2015

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Folded Butterfly Paintings

This week we will be exploring acrylic paint for the first time this year. Students will make a folded painting of a butterfly using primary colors.

First/Second Grade: Hexagon

Students will explore their creativity using hexagon shapes this week. Students will see various ways to create a composition using shape and color.

Third/Fourth Grade: Fall Tree Drawing Art Project

Fall is officially upon us. To celebrate this colorful time of year, we will be making a walk-through painting where students learn how to make layers and create the illusion of distance with foreshortening and dilution of colors.

Fifth Grade: Fall Critique

As the semester ends, it is a good time to take stock. We will be having our first critique on some work that we’ve completed and hopefully learn how to make even better art the next semester!

WEEK: 7 DATE: September 21, 2015

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Moon Festival Activities

This week we will be celebrating the Moon Festival.  Students will be learning about the Moon Festival mythological characters and doing some coloring exercises.

 

First/Second Grade: Dragonhead Mask

In honor of the Moon Festival, we will be working on Dragon heads using construction paper.  Students will draw out the different parts of the dragon and glue them together.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Dragonhead Mask

WEEK: 6 DATE: September 13, 2015

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Moon Festival Projects

This week we will be getting ready for the Moon Festival happening next week. Mark your calendars, Friday 25, September 2015 is the assembly.

 

First/Second Grade: Lantern Pastel Drawings

Students will be learning about the long traditions of Vietnam with a pastel exercise. We will be making lantern drawings. Students will be reminded of their shapes and have a walk-through on how to create a lantern.

Fifth Grade: Moon Festival Assembly Stage Props

Working in conjunction with the Vietnamese Language Department, we’ve been commissioned to make some guitars and moons for the Moon Festival happening next week. Student will be painting the guitars and adding glitter.

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Dr. Seuss Drawing

This week we will be learning about Dr. Seuss and his huge impact upon culture. We will read one of his most famous stories. We will be learning how to draw his most beloved characters.

 

First/Second Grade: Rainy Day in the City Pastel Drawing

We will be exploring pastels for the first time this year. This exercise will have students look at their world objectively to make a scene that incorporates the monsoon season and it’s effect on daily life.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Reading Week Posters

This is the beginning of Reading Week!  Given the holiday last Wednesday, the students will be finishing up their posters from last week.

Reading Week is Coming!

 

WEEK: 3 DATE: Sunday 30, August 2015

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Hexagon shaped grid oil pastel drawings

This week the class will be introduced to new medial of pastels. We will be doing some directed drawing with the use of grids. These are excellent for building up confidence in creating images through shapes. Students also learn how to blend between colors.

 

First/Second Grade: Reading Week Poster

Coming next week will be the official kick off of Reading Week! To get the students excited about this annual event, we will be making posters to raise awareness. Students will learn about taglines, coloring, and character creation.
