WEEK: 11 DATE: October 27, 2014

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Glitter Webs

This week we will be learning about nature and the fascinating world of spiders.  Students will be making their own spider webs using pastel, construction paper, glue, and glitter.

 

First/Second Grade: Haunted House Silhouette Cut Out

We will be making a spooky house by cutting out an outline.  Students will see a variety of houses and a demonstration of how to cut out their haunted mansions.

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Art Olympiads

This week we will be learning about a The Art Olympiads competition run by the International Child Arts Foundation.  The theme for this year is “my favorite sport”.  The goal of the organization is to raise awareness about “the Fourth-Grade slump”- a time in which students start to lose their creativity.  The other main goal is to promote a healthy body by raising issues of obesity.

 

Fifth Grade:

This week we will be learning about a The Art Olympiads competition run by the International Child Arts Foundation.  The theme for this year is “my favorite sport”.  The goal of the organization is to raise awareness about “the Fourth-Grade slump”- a time in which students start to lose their creativity.  The other main goal is to promote a healthy body by raising issues of obesity.

Environmental Painting

Week 9 October 13, 2014

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Rainbow Circles

We will be learning our colors and the rainbow order.  Students will also learn about how to mix colors and apply them to paper.

First/Second Grade: Environmental Landscape

In conjunction with 1st Grade teacher Ms. Andrea,  we will be painting four distinct habitats (glacial, tropical rain forest, desert, and the ocean).

Third/Fourth Grade: Oil Pastel Jack-O-Lanterns.

It’s Halloween season again and we have the spirit.  We will be making oil pastel Jack-O-Lanterns.   Students will learn how to blend colors and see a slide show of various pumpkins from around the world.

Fifth Grade: Monster Mask

We will be creating masks for Halloween.  Students will be creating their own designs and then choosing their media.

WEEK: 8 DATE: October 6, 2014

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Half-Painted Butterfly

This week we will be working with acrylic for the first time this year.  Students will create half of a butterfly on a folded piece of paper.  Then they will fold it over to make a complete butterfly!

 

First/Second Grade: Night Pastel Painting

We will be working with pastels creating a night scene.  Students will be thinking in terms of a night scene and making a light source. 

 

Third/Fourth Grade: Mondrian Painting

We will be creating a painting based on the style of Piet Mondrian.  He was known for his geometric work that incorporated primary colors and straight lines.
