WEEK 2: Lesson Overview August 25-29, 2014

Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten:

Making a Shape Person

This week we will be creating figures using shapes.  The students will learn different shape names and be given a specific set of instructions how to color each shape before cutting them out.   They will be told to arrange the various shapes to create a figure.  This lesson familiarizes the students with the different media.  This is a great assessment tool to see how well they can follow directions and it measures their level of creativity given the open-ended aspect of the assignment.

Kindergarten:

Puffy Name Tag

This week we will be working on our letters and writing our names.  Students will be making a nametag using rainbow colors and learning how to make a contour drawing.  This will be useful with learning their names and for me to learn their names also!

Negative Space People

In this lesson, the students will be working with silhouette and negative space. Students will be given a piece of paper divided into 4 sections. In each section, the student will have to draw a picture people. This will be the basis for their negative space piece. Their drawings will be transferred onto black construction paper, then they will cut out the negative space around the figures. The negative area will be filled up by different colored paper, creating a narrative of boxes.
